Indonesian low rank coal contain relatively large amounts of moisture content typically ranging from 45 to 55%, mostly in Kalimantan and Sumatra. The challenge for low rank coal utilization is how to reduce moisture content with coal drying process.

The drying kinetics of an Indonesian low rank coal and moisture readsorption of the dried coal using a thermobalance and a climatic chamber were investigated. Results show that the drying kinetics is best represented by two stages, as a constatnt rate stage followed by a rate decay stage.

Utilization of low rank coal is still lacking, due to the limited market. Besides that, also due to the location of low rank coal is relatively far from the market and have relative high moisture content (3045%), so if need transportation make low rank coal is not economically. Coal demand for domestic in the coming years is quite significant.

Coal production reached 426 Mt (2013), dominated by thermal coal, with % of coal for export. Utilization of LRC (low rank coal) is still lacking, due to the limited market. Besides that, also due to the location is relatively far from the market and have high moisture content (3055%), so transportation makes LRC not economically.

structure of coal, the forms of water present in low rank coals, migration of water during drying, coal structure changes during moisture loss, moisture readsorption, and effects of water removal on subsequent applications including combustion, gasification and liquefaction has been reported. [48].

Lowrank coals including the brown and the subbituminous coals are commonly known to contain high moisture content (up to 65%, wet basis), which limits their utilization around the world in spite of their low cost. Today, the most of the drying technologies are based on the evaporation of the water from the moist product. In this chapter, the most effective parameters on the evaporative coal ...

Jul 13, 2017· The price of coal sold to utilities depends upon the heating value of the coal. Thus, removal of moisture from lowrank coals (LRC) is an important operation. Furthermore, LRC can be used cost effectively for pyrolysis, gasification, and liquefaction processes. ... Drying characteristics of lowrank coal as well as factors affecting drying ...

Indonesia has many coal resources as well as coal bed methane, so shows potential for CO. 2ECBMR sites. However, there is a lack of research of coal behavior after introducing CO. 2; in particular, coal swelling caused by CO. 2. adsorption. Thus, our objective was to investigate the swelling char acteristics of Indonesia low rank coal (LRC ...

The upgrading process for Indonesian low rank coal by a combined process of vacuum drying and tar coating has been developed to produce the dry upgraded coals that are comparable with a bituminous coal. The coal samples, West Banko raw and upgraded coals, have been subjected to several analyses for evaluating the spontaneous combustion characteristics and properties.

For drying the Chinese and Indonesian low rank coals, Tahmasebi et al., investigated the drying characteristics of low rank coals in a local microwave oven operating at GHz. They found that, as opposed to conventional drying, the drying rate increased and drying time was reduced with the increase of the particle size of the coal.

Efficient in situ drying of low rank coal in a pressurized downflow flash dryer 3403 Korean J. Chem. Eng.(Vol. 33, No. 12) following equation: (1) where Xt is the instantaneous moisture content of the sample, mt is the weight of the sample at time t and m

Lowrank coals require a separate drying step as a part of the coal preparation, unlike highrank coals. This is because lowrank coals typically have moisture content in the range of 25–60%. There are also different types of moisture that exist in coal.

The drying mechanism of Indonesian low rank coal (IBC) in a fixedbed reactor, data for which appears in Table 6, is best represented by a phase boundary reaction. The more basic characteristic of the coal drying process are well known. Free water is easy to dry, but inherent moisture is harder to dry because is located within the pores of the ...

Mar 09, 2011· An upgrading process of Indonesia low rank coal, which consists of atmospheric superheated steam drying and tar coating process was proposed to improve the coal quality. An experiment using Sumatera Bunko coal, which is a lignite class coal, has been carried out. The effects of upgrading parameters such as coal size, steam temperature, drying time and tarcoating process .

Experiments were carried out to produce upgraded coals with low moisture content by steam drying method. An Indonesian low rank coal, Berau coal with moisture content of % and calorific value of 5324 cal/g in air dried basis (adb) was treated by steam drying at temperature of 225 300°C in an autoclave to study process temperature effect.

Abstract:The low rank high moisture of coal from East Kalimantan, Indonesia has been tested in large stockpiles to understand the possibilities of lowering their total moisture content under ambient conditions. The results from the small scale drying tests indicate a strong potential to significantly reduce the "as

In Indonesia, low rank coal with calorific value less than 5100 cal/g is about 36% of coal reserves (Sihite 2012). Mainly, it is utilized as power plant fuel. Utilization of activated coal as hydrogen storage was investigated in previous studies, but none of them from Indonesia low rank coal (Fierro et al. 2010; Kopac Toprak 2007; Tellez

Keywords Drying; Energy efficiency; Enhanced vapor recompression; Low rank coal INTRODUCTION Indonesia is a country with a large coal reserve. However, more than half (about 58%) of the coal reserve in Indonesia is classified as low rank coal (LRC).[1] Indonesia is estimated to have around 45 billion tons of accessible LRC.[2]

Refined coal is the product of the application of a coalupgrading technology that removes moisture and certain pollutants from lowerrank coals such as subbituminous and lignite (brown) coals and raising their calorific values. Coal refining or upgrading technologies are typically precombustion treatments and/or processes that alter the characteristics of a coal before it is burned.
